In Weaverville, California...16 June 2011

3145 miles from Roanoke, 3411 miles from Portsmouth. We are at our destination!

Last night we agreed that we could sleep in and not start off until 0800. We each had separate rooms so each must have awaken on some kind of internal clock. At any rate, I did the. Blog at 0530 and started packing. By 0700 I was schlepping stuff to the bike. I met Mark doing the same thing. Bobby was in synch too. As a result we actually got on the road early.

The GPS map to Weaverville was 234 miles. Sorta boring. The Mark Finkler route was longer but showed much more promise. You can guess which way we went. It took us 298 miles.

Although we started out on I80 we got off onto CA89 soon after we crossed into California. The next 3 1/2 hours were the best riding of the whole trip. I love 60mph sweeper turns and that is exactly what CA89 had to endless excess.

We stopped for breakfast in a small town where Autumn was our waitress.

The town also had a police car with a 24/7 cop on duty at the end of town. He was a bit stiff, being a dummy, so we stopped by to chat.

Of course mark had to show his respect

Back on the road we got to practice making perfect 60mph turns for another 2 1/2 hours. By that time we needed a break an found a fantastic bakery coffee shop on the edge of a national forest.

Then it was off for more fun. All this time it never got colder than 45F or warmer than 80F, in other words, a perfect day. We all agreed that this was the best day of the trip.

Once settled in Weaverville we started to see other Ducati folks roll in. For me it is like a homecoming. I have not seen these folks in three years but in many ways it feels like just yesterday.

I plan to take the day off tomorrow, just relaxation and recreation. Don't expect much from the blog. I will go to the library to post this.
