Oklahoma is OK, 10 June

Mark and I made it to our goal of 1000 miles in a day. Now he qualifies for membership in the Iron Butt Assn. I am already a member. This certainly qualified as an adventure. Our 0430 start put us on the road while it was still cool. We did not plan for the thick fog that not only slowed us down but also chilled me enough to require a stop to put on more clothes, By sunrise all that started to change. At about 1100 it was 94F. That is where our cooling vests came into play. You soak the vest in water and then evaporation cools you down. Without the vest we would have never made it today.

We found that the bikes are getting about 40 mpg so we have to stop for gas at about 185 miles. By that time I need to walk around anyway. It is good that Mark and I usually want to take a break at the same times. That makes him a great traveling companion.

Tomorrow we have a 450 mile trip to Amarillo. Right one that seems like child's play. At least we can start enjoying the trip now that we have built in a mileage cushion.
